Whoa BIG news (in a small package)

I've been hemming and hawing, fretting and wondering, worrying and pondering whether to get another foster dog for months now.

Would it help me break my sense of indecision about whether to let Fozzie go to a new home? Would it give Fozzie a little playmate, so he can get nice and tired out and Lamar and I can have more quality time? Would it make me feel less outnumbered with all these boys in the house, to have a little girlie mutt-face again?

I made the very rational decision that I would foster again, but only short-term or temporary and no more pit bulls because they take too long to get adopted and I get too attached.

Then, on Monday, I saw this message on the DC-rescue listserve:

Sandy, a young, rednosed pit, needs to get out of Washington Humane
Society. She is a good girl, but like so many dogs, she isn't doing well
at the shelter and her time is up. She did well in playgroups at the
shelter. We think there is a good chance she will thrive once in a home
environment. Is there a rescue who might be able to save this girl?
The result?

There is a pudgy, panting, blissed-out pit bull piglet lying on my couch next to me at this moment, gazing lovingly at Fozzie, who lies passed out on the floor beneath her after an afternoon of running and wrestling and splashing and yodeling around all over the backyard.

Sandy is proof that the best decisions are often the ones that are spontaneous, ill-thought-out, irrational, and from the heart!

  6. The best dog I ever fostered, I mean ever....and eventually (1 year later) was a pit. The family who got her have absorbed her into their lives and it as if she had always been there. She is their watchful, spirit of love and peace...and she too had run out of time. You went with your heart and we are spilling over with joy because you are who you are.

OK, that is a bit over the bank, but what I am saying is....You are the coolest.....and some day some family is going to be so great ful to you for saving her little life.

Much Love for you and what you do

    Bert

  9. That's so sweet! I am so glad you foster these little happy monsters. They are their own reward but support from friends, family, and awesome fellow bloggers is a huge help too!

  10. I'm glad too, amazingly:) I was worried it would be too much to have all these canines around but Sandy and Fozzie have been playing nonstop--its so great to see two pups so happy!

  11. Thanks Jen:) Lamar is being his usual ambivalent self--playing, wagging, snarling, and barking in turn!

  12. Doesn't she look like Ginger? I couldn't believe it when I looked back at your pictures!

  13. Bless you Kirsten, you are an angel for these guys. You made Lamar, Fozzie and Sandy happy and I bet you are one happy lady too.

  14. Love red noses! Everyone thinks I'm crazy for fostering, but I wasn't feeling too crazy this morning when I had Sassy snuggled up to the right of me and Izzy to my left. They were exhausted after a quick chase around the place. It is true that a playmate means more downtime for the humans!

  15. Isn't that great? They are all sleeping soundly right now--can't believe how quiet it is around here!

  16. Thank you Jodi! They all do seem pretty happy right now..the shelter's no place for a little bundle of love!

  17. She is the spitting image of Ginger...with the exception of the muzzle area...Ginger is all kinds of jowl-y and Sandy is much more pittie perfection... :) Maybe we need to do a side-by-side comparison to see how close they really are...

  18. She DOES have more jowl-i-ness going on there! She's got the longer snout, just like Fozzie. What do you think it is--a bit of lab mixed in there?

But in other pictures, she looks a lot like Sandy. Sandy has one white-tipped paw too.

Hey, I thought of you too because Sandy was apparently in the shelter with a dog named Ginger, who then got adopted and Sandy got very depressed and started acting up. That's why they were anxious to place her with a rescue!
