One of our greatest joys over this past summer has been going to spend time with my Aunt Nancy and Uncle Bob, who welcome my sister and me and our boyfriends and dogs and kids and pseudo-step-kids to enjoy summer days and delicious food with them by their pool. Over the years they've welcomed more than a few of my foster dogs, who have had no qualms about launching right into the pool and requiring rescue once they found how deep it was.
Fozzie, fortunately, is smart enough to stick to the fountain to avoid drowning.
Not so Florian.
What a great socialization experience and all-around good time its been to have a place where the dogs can run around, chase lingering smells of woodchucks, try different depths of water, and interact with friendly humans of all ages.
Thanks Aunt Nancy and Uncle Bob! You put up with so much. We promise not to bring two wild impulsive pit bulls, a reactive Anatolian shepherd, and a big tough Akita over to visit all at the same time, and we'll try to get the kids and boyfriends to behave themselves.
Just reading some back posts along with this one. what a lovely family you have and the great places you get to experience....You are some lucky dogs.

What a beautiful spot they have there! I'd love to have a waterfall like that in my backyard. Maybe with that litte wading pool I could slowly convince Shiva that water is fun! Family can be so wonderful. :-)
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a great yard to spend a nice relaxing summer day in. I have some backyard envy - please don't tell my dogs that there are backyards with pools, fountains and ponds. They may run away to better backyards!

ReplyDeleteMy aunt and uncle do such an amazing job with their yard and garden. If I had such an incredible place I certainly wouldn't allow a marauding band of nieces, Swiss guys, dogs, and assorted youth to defile it on a regular basis--but we're lucky they're so tolerant!

ReplyDeleteI wonder if a nice shallow, gradual lake, pond, or fountain might be the thing for her? It took my dogs a while to like deep water too--well, except for the cattle dog, who was a swimming fool from the start--but a shallow thing they can ease into makes the process less intimidating!
Thank you Bert--we are pretty darn lucky. Our own digs are covered in dog hair, tattered furniture, and scraps of gutted chew toys, but at least we have family who let us come visit!

Genghis does have a way of smiling--he's a handsome, confident sort and I suppose he thinks he has a lot to smile about :)

ReplyDeleteI don't have the patience, space, imagination, or money to do anything that beautiful! But even more beautiful than a yard with a garden and fountain is family with open hearts who share it so warmly and with so much love.
