I recently had a few days coming up where I knew I didn't have much going on that required mental acuity, so I decided to make another go at kicking the prescription pharmaceutical habit.
With the result that I had two sleepless nights, but once that was out of my system I started sleeping like a...well, like a normal sleeper. With no Ambien, no Benadryl, no herbs.
Just dogs. I do think that small, snorty, compact female dogs have a uniquely soporific effect on me. If they are in bed with me, snoring, so much the better.
It is incredibly liberating to be sleeping without assistance! Lately, I've been writing--the old fashioned way, with pen and paper--before bed instead of taking pills.
It's something I used to do a lot of, then got out of the habit.
How do YOU calm the mind and spirit? Does a little bundle of fur do it for you, or do you need something stronger?
Glad you found something that is working for you

Those are some adorable sleep aids. :)
ReplyDeleteSo sweet we love cuddling up with our pups. Norbert always slept at the foot of the bed Bob sleeps in the middle Weasley sleeps on my head Tubby sleeps at my husbadns feet and Ping switches spots. For now our newest addition sleeps in his crate nexto to the bed but he will be in the bed once he is trained

Awe, I do love sleeping with my pups. I've been having bad insomnia lately too. I sometimes take a tiny piece of an Ambien (like 1/4 pill) but I do feel groggy the next day. :(
ReplyDeleteI get to sleep wif my momma and hers told me that my snoring calms her down if she has had a rough day, dad not so much....she says on those other kinds of night an occasional "mikes hard lemonade" helps her get to sleep...lol.....stella rose
ReplyDeleteI've been reading. It works best with my kindle or a real book (not the iPad) and it's done wonders for me. I did buy a journal that I put next to the bed, but so far I haven't done that. I think that might be something I start doing.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to you for finding what works for you!
thanks
ReplyDeleteFirst time pet owners must understand that like kids, puppies need all the rest and sleep that they can get in order to grow healthy. It is such a joyful experience just watching them sleep, and it is also important to know that this is a need, not for the lack of energy or something. When a puppy loves to sleep with their pet parents, it improves the life-long bond between them. Want to learn more about puppies and their sleep requirement?
