More confirmation the other day that Star's adopters are the coolest adopters in the world.
In the midst of my TTouch training, I received this email from Star's mom:
We found a cure to her craziness, biting and being wired! When she gets crazy, we immediately put muzzle on and not only she stops biting because physically she cannot, it works like pacifier- it soothes her and make her calm- she lies down and relaxes!!!"
I had not spoken to these adopters about calming elastics, which as I learned from TTouch are a magic trick for helping a dog calm and focus. Pressure around the muzzle releases tension and helps mouthy, barking dogs settle, and it also releases endorphins.
These adopters found out on their own how great they work, through sheer intuition and innovation. Pretty cool! Star, you lucked out.
Bet it feels safe

Hi Kirsten, glad you were there for Star,
ReplyDeleteNice work by those peeps. Glad it is working out for Star!
ReplyDeleteHow excellent that Star's people found a way to help her calm down. It's also interesting to see another good use for muzzles.
ReplyDeleteWell you choose a good set of parents for her, that's for sure. I'm glad the muzzle helps bring her some peace.
ReplyDeleteWowee! When I first got adopted, mom looked into t-touch. We know things like the Thundershirt work real good for me to help me feel safer. But we'd never heard abouts "calming elastics." Star's adopters are pretty darn smart! She's lucky to have them!

That is so great that Star's peeps are helping so much!
ReplyDeleteAs I was reading about Star and the previous posts on TTouch, I was thinking of our blind Breeze who lunges and barks at nothing when she is resting/dozing. I think I am going to look into this further. Also, I muzzled her the last time I did her nails and she calmly stood still, wagging her tail the entire time. No muzzle and she was snapping and growling.
Finding the best dog muzzle for your dog should be a priority not only if you are training a dog to be a guard dog but also even if he or she would be an average pet at home. You can never predict the day or time when your dog will suddenly snap or become aggressive due to circumstances which they may not have encountered before.
