The original plan was just to hold on to Star for the weekend to see how ready she is to go to a forever home. You can probably imagine how that turned out.
I should have known that after a few days of cuddling up to a little thing like this, watching her be so happy to be out of the shelter, seeing how much calmer she is in the home, seeing how fast she learns, and feeling that she's really not such a wacky little beast after all, it would be much easier to imagine living with her for a while longer than to put her back in the shelter.
She is definitely an impulsive little thing, and stares at Lamar a little too intensely and her play with Fozzie gets a little too much. So we watch her, and we ask her to sit instead of staring or launching or pestering or escalating, and we give her treats, and she listens, and she gets calmer by the day.
I didn't know this when I took her, but over the weekend I learned that there had been starting to be some question among shelter staff about Star's future, since she'd been at the shelter so long.
Poor little thing. I'm glad she's here, and I think she's making great progress.
If she stays on the track she's been on, I'm pretty sure I can keep her and my boys safe and keep teaching her to be a patient little woman until the right adopter comes along.
Here's wishing Star the very best. I know you will help her be the best pup she can be.
ReplyDeleteStar deserves a chance of a happy caring home - hope she keeps getting calmer enjoying life in your family and learning how to behave well - good luck little Star! woofs and licks from Magic xx
ReplyDeleteWe are working with Stella-Bob on the impulse issue as well, its tough for these gals :) Your a wonderful person to take her out of the shelter for the weekend like that. We will keep our paws crossed things still continue to go well with Star.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like she has made herself right at home! I think just seeing her in your home will help people realize what a great family pet she is bound to be!
ReplyDeleteI was wondering about this after reading the last post. So you gave in? Good for you Kirsten, your heart knows no boundaries. The tools you give this guys that set them on the road to their forever homes is amazing. There must be a special place in heaven for people like you.
ReplyDeleteThank you for giving Star a chance :) She does look to be awfully happy with you. Crossing our fingers & paws that she continues to improve.
ReplyDeleteWe are glad to hear she will be staying with you longer. She will be more adoptable after being with you guys. Yea!

Oh I'm so happy to hear you're giving Star a chance! She sure looks at home in those pics!
ReplyDeleteSounds like things might get hairy at the shelter for Star. Good thing you got her. I hope she finds a family soon (unless you *ahem* end up keeping her of course) ;) x
ReplyDeleteShe is adorable and I am so glad you were able to take her home with you. I have no doubt she will turn into a brilliant little dog now that she is out of that difficult environment. Hopefully before too long her new family will find her.
ReplyDeleteHAHA to the last picture! Kylie AND Taylor both started out as a play-date and instantly turned to a foster.
ReplyDeleteI'm SO sick of being on a foster break I really want Madden back though I may be cursing myself once the peace is again disturbed.
I really admire you for your persistence and dedication to help this little girl.
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing what they become out of the shelter environment! So happy you gave her that chance to change and evolve into who she's mean to be.... which, of course, is a perfect little family pet! Got my paws crossed she finds a perfect forever home!

We're so glad that you are giving Star such a fantastic opportunity! Ummm...what is the shelter staff saying? I don't like the sounds of that. Can you clarify?
ReplyDeleteStar needs the chance to learn and a loving home is the best place for that to happen! So many dogs aren't given a chance to be who they really are while in a shelter. Fingers and paws crossed.
She is so lucky to have you! Especially after such a rough start in life. I hope she finds a family to love:)
ReplyDeleteStar is a very lucky girl. Thanks to you takin her in, she'll be so much better prepared to go to her furever home. :)
ReplyDeleteWaggin at ya,
