Pager takes on the Potomac

With one Kayak trip successfully completed, it was hard to resist another chance to take Pager out on the water.

A nice, calm lake is a great place for a shy dog to get her feet wet and even experience something that would be tricky for many dogs, like kayaking.

Going out on the Potomac is a whole other story.

Pager wasn't the only one who was nervous about kayaking in a strong current with the sound of rushing rapids nearby.

While I went along with Florian's wacky idea, I did insist that we spend plenty of time just letting Pager explore,

get wet and cool,

and even, I think for the first time in her life, swim!

I don't think Florian minded the chance to play in the water.

In fact, he seemed right in his element.

And so was Pager. It was good for us and for her to learn just how much she likes the water.

In fact, its hard to keep her out of it. Now she'll climb right in the tub when I'm trying to clean the bathroom!

I know she's part lab, but that seems ridiculous!

What will YOUR dogs do to get in the water?

  1. Looks like everyone had a great time!! Finn loves the water. Walking her in the rain is her fave I think.

  4. I'm in awe that she got into the kayak. I've always wondered if Georgia could be persuaded onto a boat since she's not overly confident in water. Getting into a bathtub on her own is even better! LOL. Jordan loved water and always ran into sprinklers. Part lab too :)

  5. Slow moving rivers are a great place to explore with dogs (I suspect the dry weather has kept the Potomac less wild than it often is). There are all kinds of neat smells. And keeping balance on the slippery rocky surface is a real confidence builder.

Honey hates to swim but she loves to wade.

It's lovely to see something Pager enjoys so much. It sounds like she's getting some confidence.

  6. I love the picture of Pager in the kayak, definitely looks apprehensive. Florian is my favorite human "character" on any blog I read, he's just as fun to watch as the pups! Haha :) My babies DON'T get in the water! Once on a hike we were able to get Hades to stand in some chest deep water. He seemed to enjoy it, but there was no splashing or swimming, just peaceful standing and gazing.

  7. Delightful photos, esp. of Pager in the kayak. Two of my fosters LOVE the kiddie pool - the Great Pyrenees and a tweenie Dachshund close to a mini-size. HA.
